Highlights of Lucerne, Switzerland by Celeste Sheffey

 Traveling through Europe was a  five year dream which came true in August 2008.  Saving job bonuses, wrapping and depositing all of my change each month, and creating a direct deposit bank account all earmarked just for this trip.

The original plan was to sign-up for a 21 day escorted tour including paying the totally large and unfair single supplement rate. This trip was in celebration of working at the same job for 25 years and receiving an additional four weeks of personal time!  However, after many months of research and consideration, I thought it’d be a fantastic suprise treating my two daughters (then 23 and 33) to a great vacation together, Our first mother/daughters’  only vacation.

They were stunned when I presented a 10 day  trip certificate to them at our 2007 Christmas celebration. The cost to bring my daughters, three of us,  for our ten day London to Rome Tour was almost the same as the 21 day travel package. My youngest daughter had a friend travel with us  which was great fun for the 4 of us.

Even though it was raining when we arrived by motorcoach  in Switzerland, for me, it was especially exciting as I really didn’t know much about the country. Our tour bus guide, Peter, was very entertaining. Before going to our hotel, Peter had the bus driver park so we could all walk over to see the Lion Monument. I had no idea what we were going to see and wow! what a magnificient piece of artwork. This link explains in beautiful detail what the monument represents.

I recently decided to redo our first ten day video into smaller individual clips of each country we visited. I went on all of the escorted tours while my daughters mainly visited the shops.  Featured here is my full day in Lucerne. I purchased the Alpine Mountain excursion going to the top of the Stanserhorn.

It was and remains an unforgetteable experience.
