I love saving memories. Birthday cards, Valentine’s cards and Christmas/Holiday cards, over 30 years of gorgeous notes, congratulations on the birth of each of my babies and so much more.
Recently I went through an 18 month major home renovation which meant moving many containers of mementos from room to room until finally, I decided to digitize my family’s memories and eliminate most of the containers. I also thought it’d be a great idea to incorporate photo scanning as an added service to my existing video and photography business.
One year later, I’m still working to complete my personal scanning projects while also completing scanning projects for all of my new clients!
Today, though, I happily and proactively scanned all of this month’s holiday cards to one of my 500GB external hard drives and also uploaded them to one of my favorite, free, online photo storage companies, Shutterfly.com.
If you aren’t able to scan your cards and photos, consider:
- Vertically placing a white pillow case or table cloth on your sofa for a clean white background.
- Place the card or photo on the white cover, turn the flash off, on the digital camera and take a picture of the photo/card.
- You should now have a nice digital image of your photo or card
I admit, I still like to hold onto everything but it’s so much easier to release another year of cards, knowing I’ve digitally saved them. An added bonus, you’ll be to privately share photo web links with friends and family members! Enjoy, preserve and share forever…..
